About LEG
The Local Entrepreneurs Group started out as the Lawrence Entrepreneurs Group in July 2009. However, once we started talking with people from other areas of the country, it seemed that it was already time to change the name as they wanted to start up their own groups of LEG.
LEG was founded to be an amalgamation of various principles from other similar groups. Our model takes the strong points of many of the groups and builds on their weaknesses. Each of our founding members has been involved in other groups in the past, bringing to the table the pros and cons of each.
One area in which we feel we have made improvements is in the overall atmosphere. The group is not "stuffy" or overly rigid (more about rules and structure than communication and collaboration) yet it is not so loose that the group is nothing more than a social club. We have portions of the meetings in which we discuss matters of concern and brainstorm on solutions to those problems but we also have enough time to communicate with each other and share referrals.
Part of the reason that our group is so successful is that it is aimed more at the early-to-mid-life business. The members and those who show the most interest in joining our group are those who are in the age range of about mid-20s to early-50s. They have run their businesses anywhere from 1 to 20 years. Because of this, we have a very good mix of seasoned wisdom and youthful energy to give advantage to all the members.
Unlike some other groups, we are not politically active or motivated. While the members often discuss issues of politics that affect business operation, LEG itself takes no political stance and only encourages its members to vote in accordance to their feelings and consciences when going to the polls. Joining does not compel the member to uphold one political position or another. This is a group that is completely focused on making the member businesses grow.
We, the founders of the Local Entrepreneurs Group, feel strongly that the way to make a business flourish is by helping others. As the old saying goes, "What goes around, comes around." The more you help the other members with collaboration or customer referrals, the more you will get in return.
